Cutting carbon emissions in half by 2030

JYSK acknowledges that the climate is changing and that our business is contributing to that change. We are working hard to make our facilities more efficient, to transition to renewable electricity, and to phase out fossil fuels in order to rapidly cut our carbon footprint.

JYSK has set greenhouse gas reduction targets for our own business in line with what climate science tells us is required to limit global warming to below 1.5 °C.

JYSK aims to cut in half the greenhouse gas emissions emitted from powering and heating all of our stores, distribution centres, offices, and company owned vehicles by 2030 (from a 2019 baseline).

For several years, we have been working to make our facilities more efficient. For example, we have switched to LED lighting and installed motion sensors in almost all stores, distribution centres and office buildings.

We are putting solar panels up on many of our buildings, and we are exploring other ways to shift to green electricity and carbon neutral heating.

Carbon neutral by 2050

As a retailer, our carbon footprint extends way beyond our own operations. The majority of emissions come from the factories that produce our products, and from the ships and trucks that bring them to our distribution centres, stores and customers.

JYSK is committed to reducing our greenhouse gas footprint, both from our own operations, and also from everything in our value chain that we can influence.

JYSK is engaging supply chain and transportation partners to set goals and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Our goal is to be carbon neutral throughout everything we do by 2050.

Science Based Targets initiative

JYSK has committed to the internationally recognised Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to contribute to limiting global warming.

By signing up to SBTi, JYSK is committed to reducing emissions within its own operations and taking responsibility for the end-to-end emissions from the products sold in the stores.

The work to calculate the full CO2e baseline for the entire value chain is ongoing and once it is finalised, it will indicate where JYSK can find the biggest reductions to reach its climate goal.
